Apparently, one of the many catchphrases birthed on The Amos ‘n’ Andy Radio Hour and Klan Rally was “I thinks I done broke my sacro-crackerjack!”
The fact that it was repeated often enough to be considered a catchphrase leads me to believe that people were smarter in this country a couple of generations back. Or a larger percentage of the audience actually performed manual labor for a living and my injury was more common then. Or they just kept repeating it for all of the funny “k” sounds (thanks again, Neil Simon!).
What made me laugh, though, is that “Holy mackerel!” was born on that show, too.
Finally caught up on Southland. Good Lord, that is some remarkable TV. It ain’t The Wire, sure, but I can’t believe NBC is backing this pony. It is smart and unpredictable and brilliantly written and acted (yes, that’s C. Thomas Howell and yes, I spent the first two episodes wondering if he was former Chicago CSz-er Trevor Parker and yes, he’s amazing) (C. Thomas and Trevor, actually).
Back was OK in the early morning, horrific by 10, manageable by 4 and I think it’s sleeping now so try not to wake it.
Tomorrow we’re spending a day in the park. I had planned on writing some more ToyFare stuff, but the info never found its way to me on Friday, so I guess I’ll do it later in the week.
Time for more episodes of The Chopping Block. Though I’m not entirely sure why (oh yeah! we have no TV!).
And Marco is dreamy in a Simply Red/ugly kind of way.
Have a nice weekend.
