If not for our good friend, Bethany, I would be in police custody with my wife’s endocrinologist’s skull in an evidence bag.

After taking the two injections that prepare her for tomorrow’s treatment, we found out that:

a) no one asked the insurance company for all of the necessary approvals

b) her endocrinologist insists that we all agreed that I would move out for a week or two and let Teresa fend for herself in our home (where we share common areas with two young children), and that she will do all of the radioactive treatments as an outpatient

c) if you tell this endocrinologist that he is mistaken, he will yell at you (even if you are in tears, feeling helpless and betrayed) and hang up the phone on you

d) how Bill Hicks felt about marketing professionals, I feel about doctors

I would write more (I’ll provide this asshole’s name and induct him to the Hall of Fame for Jerks soon), but I am expecting to take my wife to the hospital tomorrow (where hopefully she’ll get to be an inpatient!) and I want to spend as much time as I can with her.

To the handful of people that are actively (and sympathetically) scrambling to help my wife, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. To everyone else, not only should you feel ashamed to the pit of your soul (or lack thereof), but I promise you that the AMA will be getting a whole bunch of letters from me.

We don’t need healthcare reform in this country. We need healthcare.

No, seriously. How can I help? You need names of some NYC endos that aren’t complete douchenozzles to refer to? My Princeton docs all know NYC docs. I can get some names for you.

I don’t know if I can help with the insurance thing as the pre-cert for nuclear stuff must come from the ordering physician.

Email me. If I can help, let me know.

    Hey guys,

I do need a new endocrinologist as soon as possible. I have had 4 of them since this whole thing started. I know a lot of docs are total pills, but for some reason this field seems to have more than its fair share of them.

I am going in in a little while and we still don’t know if it was approved with the insurance, but I guess I just have to sit there and wait until we find out.

Please keep Jed cheered up during this time.

    XOXOX,
    Teresa

OK, I asked one of my docs so far. He doesn’t have a name, but for NYC endo programs he likes Cornell or maybe Columbia. I’ll post more when I get it from other docs.

For what it’s worth, if you can get down to my neck of the woods in Princeton, these are the guys in town we swear by.

Teresa or Jed, if you want, give me an email or phone # so I can get this stuff to you quicker.

Sadly, endocrinology is not a feild filled with people with fantastic bedside manner. The reasons for this are complicated, cultural, and depressing. But as god is my witness, I will find a friendly endocrinologist! I am pulling, consulting, calling in favors, making internal complaints! MEDICAL BETHANY SMASH! ANGERRRRRRR!

Before I completely hulk out, I have to say to all the Weakly faithful…if you have a negative experience with a doctor, please go to every “doctor review” website you can find, and post reviews. Put it out their that this guy is a jerk. And relay your experience politely to whoever referred you. Write letter to department chairs. Help others avoid your fate, and cost this doctor a little business and reputation. It’s the only way things will change…I’ve seen it first hand and it works.
